James Stevens opened his eyes at five a.m. sharp, as he had done every morning since he first started service several decades ago, despite there be no longer needs for such accurate timekeeping after his retirement. He got out of bed, went through his ablutions, and sat down at his desk. He thought he would write to her, today. Takes place post-movie, a decade later.

Stevens is surprised when he finds Miss Kenton wearing a posh evening dress.
