Therese might have whined to her about how she didn't need to worry about materialistic gifts, that simply spending time with Carol was all that she would ever want and need. But Carol was someone who gave into her own interests far too often, and right now, her current interest was indulging Therese.

They couldn't quite get a tree that was as big as it was that year, but the simple fact that they'd chose the tree for themselves, for their apartment, made it enough for Therese.

Therese and Carol go out to the Rockefeller Christmas Center for a quick spin around the ice.

It's now that Carol Aird thinks that she's finally free from the woes of love. It's then that Therese Semco, part-time musician and aspiring photographer, enters her life.

In the four years Therese has known Carol, Therese finds herself falling more and more in love every day.

"Tell Therese about your fishing trip with Rindy," Carol requested in a tone that bore no more interest than normal. She caught Therese sitting up straight, as though her name was being called so she could answer a question of which she didn't know the answer. Carol amusedly supposed that it was an appropriate analogy.
