Wynne Jones’ talk on Fire and Hemlock includes the lines “…though a relationship was possible between Polly and Tom, such a relationship is is only likely to be maintained through continuing repeated small acts of heroism from both.” This story, which continues where “Today is Hallowday” leaves off, thinks about what that might look like (and enjoys them being happy together!)

A missing moment, of which I like to think there were many, from the years between Polly forgetting and then ing Tom, where she almost - for a fraction of a second - re. This one is inspired by his exclamation when Polly bends the spine of a book at the concert hall in Bristol.

A short imagining of Polly and Tom as they return triumphant from that fateful night at Hundson House, bedraggled, wet, slightly awkward and - at last - ridiculously happy.
