This story, set in 1797, begins with Mireille in Cambridge with Blake and Wordsworth, searching Newton's papers for clues about the formula. She receives a letter from Elisa Bonaparte, inviting her to her wedding. Mireille goes to Elisa's wedding, but the bandits who have taken the White King have followed her there. She also has to face her guilt over killing Marat.

Mireille visits the Bonapartes in Marseille in 1793, shortly after she kills Marat. Elisa helps her deal with her guilt. Lucien Bonaparte is kidnapped and held on an island along with some pieces from the Montglane Service, and the kidnappers know that Mireille killed Marat. Will Mireille and Elisa be able to rescue him? And will the kidnappers expose Mireille's secret?

This story is for all the fans of The Eight who wish that Valentine were still alive. It turns out that the young priest saved Valentine from the prison massacre, and she's gone to the desert, where Shahin has been hiding her until Mireille accomplishes a certain task.

This story takes place during Mireille's stay with the Bonapartes on Corsica. She receives a message that the White King from the Montglane Service is buried in a cave, which is the lair of a group of bandits. Mireille and Elisa Bonaparte fight the bandits and search for the White King. But it's mostly about the friendship between Mireille and Elisa.

I was surprised not to see any fan fiction based on The Eight, which is one of my favorite books. This is a story I wrote several years ago. It goes contrary to the "facts" of the novel. Mireille returns to Montglane Abbey after traveling to England and tells her adventures to a young woman studying there. It shows how she felt about her actions in July 1793.
