Pre-series. The Kura is about launch as Momoki taps into an old resource, recruiting Narihisago. The cutting technology isn't the only challenge the new team faces as the realize the full implications of their new tool-and the man selected to pilot it. Narihisago is less than thrilled when Momoki insists on an offsite specialized scan offsite. He sends Hondomachi along to handle the ornery inmate. When word comes that the convoy never arrived, panic sets in. Matsuoka locates the vehicles and to the horror of Kura—Narihisago and Hondomachi are missing. Did he finally snap and go full rogue? Where are they now?

While inside a strange desert well, Sakaido meets a mysterious man who was near Kaeru. They journey together to get to the oasis, a place with unlimited water to refill their water pouches in the harsh climate. A beast roams near the oasis, so they would have to be careful. But the man won't tell anything about himself to Sakaido. Who is he and why does he have no name?

With Fukuda awakened from the coma Narihisago wishes for one thing: that he be returned to that state! After a particularly rough night, an ornery Narihisago couldn't imagine things getting worse … until by circumstance he and Fukuda become the only hope for Kura against a calculated infiltration. Can two serial killers who don't work well together manage to not murder each other?

Narihisago and Hondomachi made it out of the id well, but the consequences come tumbling down. Narihisago with the GSW and Momoki suffering broken ribs. Kura stumbles to come back into operation in the aftershocks of the John Walker case. Taking the Wellside reins Momoki directs the first dive following ... no one expects the fallout.
